The holiday is over.....
Last week I painted a mural at the Burchells' new home. An impressive house, perched on the mountainside with beautiful views across to the Bristol Channel. Dean and Sammy made me very welcome, making me coffee and showing me their pet snake and hamster. They even helped with some of the painting.

Happy New Year!
The latter half of 2010 was spent bid writing and setting up a feltmaking studio. Delays in the delivery and replacement of equipment ensured that the making process was delayed until the Autumn. September and October were spent creating designs and samples for a range of woollen objects. The snow came and went throughout November and December and Christmas showcase events were subsequently cancelled. I closed the studio door and headed for the warmth of the loft to paint for an approaching exhibition.
And there it went!
Ok, for those of you following the Artists & Artisans blog it will be apparent that our proposed launch date has come and gone without any substantial activity on our site. However, we've been busy in the studio finalising designs for corporate clients and filtering through profiles of prospective artists. We hope to have new work from our chosen artists on our site by the end of the month.
Countdown
The studio/office is progressing – the ladder replaced by a staircase, the plumbing in place, the floor fixed and the walls ready for plastering. Despite the amount of work we still have to do, I’m pretty confident that our online launch will be on the 22nd September, the Autumn Equinox, when day and night are of equal duration, before our decent into increasing darkness. As this marks the end of summer, it seems fitting to retreat to the studio, to take stock, mix paints and prepare the ground for a new venture.
Autumn has always been my favourite season, I revel in the anticipation it seems to bring. Nature slows, schools and colleges reopen their doors, books are read and friends gather for conversation around the fire.
There are 38 days to go before summer clicks into autumn and during that time we will be busy completing the office/studio and clearing out the unnecessary clutter, to make way for new ideas to become manifest.
The Autumnal Equinox 2009 will occur at 09-22-2009 at 21:18 UCT. That would be 17:18 EDT or 14:18 PDT.
Moving On Up
Ninety days ago I registered artistsandartisans.co.uk with a vision; to create an online gallery, a contemplative space, where I would collaborate with friends and promote our work as artists, writers, designers and makers. After a few meetings I began planning the site's content - scribbling ideas on discarded envelopes and note pads until 'real life' caught up with me and my vision became blurred with choices. I froze and created nothing.
It was a huge surprise when Paul announced that he was taking July off work to convert the attic into a workable office/studio. My deadline was set. I'd launch the site in September from a new inspirational workspace.
So, for now, until my scribbles are realised and we officially open for business, this is where we’re at.
